Curriculum
At Smith Family Treehouse, curriculum happens all day;
in every routine, action and interaction. Our teachers
recognize that basic daily routines, such as eating,
diapering/toileting, clean up and play are all opportunities
for teachable moments.
Using classroom observations as a guide, staff create
activities and meaningful experiences to support each
child’s interests and needs. Creativity, curiosity and the
freedom of choice are always fostered. Ample stretches
of choice time are incorporated into the daily schedule
allowing children the opportunity to reflect, explore
and collaborate. These interactions stimulate imagination
and promote learning customized to each child’s needs
and interests. Overall, social relationships are a central
part of their day.
Self-help skills and social skills such as turn taking, learning
how to listen, and speaking in turn are all integrated into
the classroom curriculum. Respect for each other and
the materials being used is always encouraged. It is
these principles that help build self-confidence, social
skills, and academic readiness.
There is always something new and challenging to
explore! We take great pride in keeping you involved in
your child’s day. Through documented photographs,
displays of children’s work, daily notes, and many
personal phone calls or emails, our staff enables parents
to maintain a connection to their child’s day while at
our center.
