Pre-Kindergarten
In our Pre-Kindergarten Classroom children often have
an increased developmental ability and interest in academic
activities such as journal writing, letter formation, alphabet
games, science experiments, and math problems. As
Pre-Kers exhibit this readiness, teachers, incorporate
more structured and increasingly challenging academic
activities into the day.
- Large, bright and cozy environment
- Maximum group size: 11 children to 2 teachers
- Consistent schedule with weekly curriculum plans are
sent home each week incorporating: creative play, letter
recognition, writing skills, sharing skills and singing
- Balanced activities (individual and small/large group)
- Daily outside play and/or walks, weather permitting
- Social interactions are a large part of our Pre-K day
including social skills such as turn taking, listening to
others, and speaking in turn
- Self-help skills are also an important focus—the Pre-K
masters skills such as putting on coats unassisted, personal
hygiene, making healthy snack choices, and problem-solving
- Children practice letter formation, reflect on books and
personal experiences and practice other age-appropriate
language and literacy skills in a literacy journal
- Morning and afternoon meetings take place daily during
which children and teachers
- Reflect on the day
- Read stories and sing songs
- Discuss weather
- Play alphabet games
The Pre-kindergarten curriculum is built upon children’s interests
and needs as well as the Massachusetts Department of Education
Preschool Guidelines.
